I’ve always been creative and over the years have found great joy making gifts for friends and family – I’m not certain they’ve had as much joy receiving these things as I had making them but, this isn’t about them, its MY blog, it’s all about ME (and of course, YOU, my very discerning reader!)
As time moves on, having a home and garden to maintain means that there is always something that I need to make or repair. Granted, certain jobs will always require a professional, but there’s so much we can do for ourselves.
I’m still learning and sometimes, I have to admit, my imagination is way ahead of my skill set, but I am never afraid to have a go at something.
Not being afraid to try is important, but not being afraid to ask for help is essential.
Although I live 400 miles from family, they are always on the end of the phone. So whether it’s calling my Dad to ask him how to fix the shed roof or a leaking tap, pestering Mom for decorating tips or design ideas, or messaging friends in the online maker community (this lot usually just laugh or say ‘hit it with a hammer!), there’s always someone to shout out to for help.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about turning a scribble on a scrap of paper, or a fleeting wacky thought (I have lots of those) in to something tangible, in to a useful or fun object. Or to repair something, repurpose it, to breathe new life in to something that would otherwise have been thrown away is exciting.
So, here we are, I want to share my journey with you. This blog is for anyone who thinks they COULD – I’m here to tell you that you absolutely SHOULD, just try something different, have a go and see where it takes you.
